Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX®
Q. What wrinkles can BOTOX® treat?
A. Facial wrinkles fall into the main categories of static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles show even when your face is at rest, while dynamic wrinkles appear or become more obvious when you make a facial expression. BOTOX® injections treat dynamic wrinkles, which include crow's feet, forehead lines, and frown lines between your brows. They don't treat wrinkles resulting from sun damage or gravity. If you have a variety of different facial wrinkles, you may wish to combine BOTOX® with injectable dermal fillers like Juvéderm.
Q. How does BOTOX® reduce wrinkles?
A. BOTOX® uses small injections of highly purified botulinum toxin to relax the muscles that cause your dynamic wrinkles to appear. Although it is among the most extensively studied cosmetic treatments available, several other brands produce similar botulinum toxin-based medicines to reduce wrinkles, such as Dysport and XEOMIN.
Q. Who is a good candidate for BOTOX®?
A. Individuals who wish to reduce dynamic wrinkles (crow's feet and frown lines) are a good candidate for BOTOX®. These injections aren't recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.
Q. What should I expect from a BOTOX® treatment?
Our knowledgeable and compassionate team meets with you to discuss your cosmetic concerns and goals. During this consultation, we help you determine which treatment options are best suited to your individual needs and desired results. All of our botulinum toxin injections are quick, minimally invasive, and virtually painless. Although most patients report minimal discomfort, anesthetic creams and cooling devices are available.
It typically takes 7 to 14 days to see the full effects of BOTOX® injections, although it may take up to 2 weeks to experience full results. These results generally last about 3 to 6 months. When you begin to see wrinkles reappear, it's time to schedule your next appointment.
